Best gaming laptop ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 Review 2022
Design
There have been a lot of white laptops this year and ASUS has mastered the art of making great-looking laptops. The 2021 Zephyrus G15 borrows the same design from its smaller sibling, including magnesium alloy construction right down to the perforated dot pattern on the lid. But you can’t have it with fancy LED lights. Instead, there is a prism film beneath the 8,279 holes that reflects light in a rainbow-like effect, a unique design feature of the notebook.
It has a plastic feel, but the structure is solid. ASUS assures that the magnesium-aluminum construction can be subjected to some shocks and shocks. I also like the implementation of the ‘ergo lift’ hinge design.
This is because there is some space on the floor for the laptop to breathe. There are also two large slits on either side of the laptop’s keyboard to accommodate the top firing speakers.
Display
The Zephyrus G15 is one of the few laptops of the year with a QHD 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution display. You’ll usually see laptops with full HD or 4K options, but for the kind of hardware on the market today, I think 2K displays are a great place to be, especially for gaming.
This panel isn’t the fastest compared to the competition, with a 165Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time, but I haven’t had any complaints about it. It’s an anti-glare panel, so it greatly reduces reflections and gets fairly thin bezels on the sides and top.
Also, there is no built-in webcam. This is something we’ve seen on other ASUS laptops. However, the device I received includes an external webcam. The company has confirmed that at least all products sold in India will ship with the same webcam. It’s not bad considering you don’t have to pay extra, but it’s not a viable solution for all types of users.
Other notable features include 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut and Pantone validation, which is enough for photo or video editing. It can render nice colors and wide viewing angles, but I’m not entirely impressed with black.
Also, demanding a maximum brightness of 300 nits, this panel isn’t the most vivid panel I’ve ever seen on a laptop. In that sense, I think the display is suitable for everyday use.
Performance
The new Zephyrus G15 is powered by AMD’s latest Ryzen 5000 mobile CPU based on the 7nm Zen 3 architecture. The model sent to me contains an 8-core Ryzen 9 5900HS, a 35W CPU capable of up to 4.5GHz, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 mobile graphics card.
When it comes to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 specs the laptop comes with 6GB of DDR6 memory. Performance is at a peak where the CPU can easily handle almost every single task.
As an everyday laptop, I’ve never seen a laptop struggle. I was able to easily open 40+ Chrome tabs at the same time.
For everyday multitasking including gaming, typing a lot, watching videos, and photos/videos editing the ASUS’s ROG Zephyrus G15 laptop performs great.
Talking about when playing high-end gaming the fans can automatically speed up or slow down depending on the profile being used. I’ve seen the CPU go up to 98 degrees celsius when stressed, but I’ve found that the temperature manages well for most tasks, including gaming, and never goes above the mid-80s.
This is best for a laptop that can handle AAA game titles at 1440p resolution. The SSD keeps your work fast and fast, and with the optional secondary M.2 slot, ASUS ensures you never run out of internal storage for gaming.
VR Ready Technology

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series GPUFast and quiet performance. Real-time ray tracing and AI-enhanced graphics. And the world’s thinnest and lightest design for portability. Everything you want. Only on GeForce RTX gaming laptops.
NVIDIA Turing architecture combined with the all-new GeForce RTX platform, this innovative architecture combines real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading. I’ve never made and enjoyed a game like this before.
The Ray tracing is the final solution for life-like lighting, reflections, and shadows, providing a level of realism far beyond what is possible using traditional rendering techniques. NVIDIA Turing is the first GPU capable of real-time ray tracing.
Incredible performance GeForce RTX gaming GPUs are equipped with next-generation GDDR6 memory, support for DirectX 12 features, and more. This is a reimagined graphic.
Innovative gaming technology uses the latest NVIDIA GameWorks technology for smooth gameplay, cinematic experiences, and innovative 360-degree image capture, even in VR. Plus, get the power to drive the latest displays, including VR, ultra-high-resolution, and multiple monitors.
VR Ready experiences the best headsets powered by NVIDIA VRWorks technology, next-generation VR performance, lowest latency, and plug-and-play compatibility. Feel and hear every moment with VR audio, physics, and haptics.
Keyboard
The keyboard is very similar to last year’s Zephyrus G14, which is a satisfying experience. It offers a nice 1.7mm of key travel and the layout is well laid out and easy to use.
The hexagonal power button in the upper-right corner of the keyboard deck houses a fast and accurate fingerprint reader. I also like the way ASUS implements dedicated volume and mic mute keys, which was very useful in Fortnite gaming sessions.
Touchpad
The touchpad is one of the biggest I’ve seen in a long time. It feels almost the same size as what you see on the MacBook Pro 16. That said, users who like gestures will love it.
However, you need to be careful because you usually have both hands on top. Thankfully there were no palm rejection issues and I liked the feedback on the smooth glass finish.
Audio
For audio performance, ASUS has integrated a six-speaker system supported by Dolby Atmos. Two tweeters are placed at the front, while two pairs of force-canceling woofers.
The combination of speakers provides a pleasant, balanced sound, and the bass is great. However, it is not very noisy. The volume was enough to fill a medium-sized room, but overall I was happy with the audio features. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 gaming laptop also provides 5.1 audio when paired with a compatible wired headset.
Ports
In terms of ports, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 gaming laptop has a lot to offer. It has a standard barrel plug for charger, full-size HDMI 2.0, RJ45 Ethernet, full-size USB Type-A, two USB Type-C ports, and a 3.5mm audio combo jack.
To the right is another USB Type-A port, a Kensington lock port, and a microSD card reader. I’m not sure what the thinking behind integrating a microSD card reader is.
In my opinion, a full-size SD card reader would have been especially suitable for someone like me who uses a DSLR for product photography.
Battery
Another area where the G15 shines is battery life. I set the performance mode to silent, lowered the brightness to about 50%, and used it for over 8.5 hours. This is very impressive, especially for laptops with enough raw power to run the most demanding games.
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 laptop contains a 90Whr battery unit, the charging brick is rated at 200W, and it takes over an hour to fully charge the battery. The laptop also supports USB Power Delivery charging up to 100W.
This is very useful when you don’t want to carry the bundled charging bricks in your backpack. ASUS says you can use a discrete GPU as a USB PD charger, but with limited power.
Cooling
A slim chassis means tough cooling, and each component of our innovative cooling solution is meticulously optimized for more airflow. Each fan blade is 33% thinner than the original design, and with 83 blades per fan, airflow increases by up to 17%, unleashing the higher performance of NVIDIA graphics cards.
Weigh
Weighing in at just 4.62 lbs, this streamlined gaming laptop weighs less than 19mm but has the performance to handle popular games and everyday tasks.
Conclusion of ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15-the Best Gaming Laptop
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 isn’t a loud or flashy RGB-lit gaming laptop to show off, but it’s a subtle design you’ll see twice. It has the power to blend in with your office meetings while providing an excellent gaming experience.
To be honest, the lack of a built-in webcam and the maximum brightness of the display is probably the only flaws this laptop can point to.
A powerful chipset inside, sleek, minimalist design, and excellent battery life make the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 one of the best gaming laptops to buy today.
